Sketches in Thyme

Happy Saturday! I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas. Today our family is just relaxing after all the festivities. You know that Christmas gifts were a hit when the kids do not complain once of boredom even when you stay at home all day.

Anyhow, I'm seriously finding it difficult to believe that not only is it nearing the end of the month, but the end of the year too! I have two final pages to share with you, both of which were inspired by December sketches from Sketches in Thyme, This first page was based on Sketch #175.

I'm usually all about the mixed media on my background, but I really loved the watercolor feel of the Easter eggs on this patterned paper so I decided to leave it as is. I did do handstitching through all of the squares to add a bit of texture. I really love these photos of Paolina. She's not much for posing, but when I capture her off guard she's very photogenic...always so full of joy!

My next page was based on Sketch #177 at Sketches in Thyme...

I didn't really do much mixed media on this background either...just a few paint splatters. This page also has some handstitching, which I thought made the circles pop a bit more. The best part is all the scraps I used up. When I'm creating a page, I always look through my paper scraps before I do anything else. I don't think there's any sense in cutting into a full sheet of paper when I could make a dent in my scrap stash! All the bright colors of the photo was perfect for creating almost a rainbow of a color scheme.

Well thank you so much for looking. I'm pretty sure that I will not find any time between now and the end of December to create any more pages and get them photographed. So I wish you all a Very Happy New Year!!!

ScrapMuch?

Merry Christmas! I'm guessing that those of you with younger kids may understand this, but our kids were up before 5am wanting to open gifts. We made them climb into bed with us and wait until 6 o'clock. But of course, they were bouncing around in anticipation for that entire hour. So now it's only 9:30am and we've already opened gifts, eaten breakfast, and played with all our gifts. The kids are currently in their rooms playing some more with said gifts so I thought I would sneak away for a few quiet moments. You have to get them where you can right?

Anyhow, I just wanted to share this layout I created using one of the December sketches at ScrapMuch? (which I flipped vertically)

Not that I actually need a reminder of warm weather, it's been in the 70s here the last few days.,(Yay...reminds me of home!) but this page has photos of Santiago this past summer on "Diving Board Day," the much anticipated day of his two weeks of swim lessons.

Thanks for looking. And once again Merry Christmas!!

Stuck?! Sketches

Happy Wednesday everyone! My hubby took the day off and the kids are at a Holiday Camp so we're trying to use this time to finish up some projects around the house. So...unfortunately I'm not getting to scrapbook today, but I did want to pop in and share a page with you that I created using the December 15th sketch at Stuck?! Sketches. I did flip the sketch vertically because the journaling card's arrow would have been pointing away from the photo if I had used the sketch exactly as it is.

Paolina absolutely adores taking selfies with me. When she was still in preschool, I would pick her up first and then we would go to wait for Santiago's school bus to arrive. On nice days we would get out of the car and sit on a bench, but sometimes we would just stay in the car and take silly photos. This particular day was my birthday, and when we pulled up to the bus stop she started singing "Happy Birthday" to me. I did catch it on video, but you can't really scrapbook that, so I thought I would document the moment with one of our selfies. Love this sweet girl!

Anyhow, it's back to assisting my hubby with my "honey-do list." Thanks so much for looking!

ScrapMuch?

Happy Tuesday! Can you believe it's only three days until Christmas? Do you have all your shopping done? Have you had any time to scrapbook? I haven't been able to do any since the kids have been out of school, but I definitely have hopes that I will squeeze it in. In the meantime I still have several pages that I completed in the last three weeks to share. The below layout was inspired by a sketch from ScrapMuch?

I took these photos when I went with Santiago on his school field trip to see Skippyjon Jones at the Dallas Children's Theater. I used lots of scraps and mixed media on this one. It can be so much fun to get messy on a page, and I always love the result!

Thanks for looking.

Sketch~N~Scrap

Hello everyone! I hope you all have been having a great weekend. I haven't had a chance to do any scrapbooking, but I'm not complaining because it's been sunny and in the 60s so we've been outside taking advantage of the beautiful weather. Considering it's December we need to enjoy it while we can, right?

Anyhow, I wanted to share a layout I created using the Twistback Thursday sketch at Sketch~N~Scrap.

The only good thing about being so far behind in my scrapbooking is getting to reminisce over the old photos. Santiago was two years old in these pictures...it's hard to believe how slim and lean he is five years later!

I haven't made a banner in absolutely forever, but those cute little tickets really inspired me to add one to this layout. I also used up lots of paper from my scrap stash. Most of it is at least five years old! Overall  it was very satisfying to knock out some old photos as well as make a dent in my scraps.

Thanks for looking!

Stuck?! Sketches

Happy Saturday! I've been so pleased with myself for actually getting all the layouts I've been creating this month photographed and posted here. I hope I can keep it up while the kids are home for Winter Break...

So we had an extremely cold & dreary week the beginning of December, and I immediately felt myself sliding into a "winter depression." In order to combat it, I pulled out some Easter photographs and bright floral papers. It actually made me feel better working with such cheerful Spring photos and product! And I got working on my page in a flash because I had an awesome sketch from Stuck?! Sketches to get my creative juices flowing.

I've mentioned before that I like to work my product around the color of my photos, so let me tell you how excited I was to see the shades of green and peach/coral in these lines work so perfectly with the kids' clothes. I also dug into my stash and found some embellies from Sassafras Lass and cardstock stickers from Flair Designs, both manufacturers that have closed their doors years ago. I love using up ridiculously old stash!

Thanks so much for looking and enjoy your weekend!

Sketch~N~Scrap

Happy Friday!! I've got to head out to my kids' school holiday parties, so this will be another super quick post. I just wanted to share a page I created using Sketch #94 from Sketch~N~Scrap.

I won't lie. I've been enjoying both of the kids being at school full time. Immensely. But I do miss "Mami-Paolina" days. Especially the little tradition we had of dropping Santiago off at the bus stop and then going to Einstein Bros for bagels before doing our grocery shopping.

Thanks for looking and have a fantastic weekend!

ScrapMuch?

Happy Monday! I hope everyone's week is off to a fabulous start. Today I'd like to share a page that was inspired by one of the December sketches at ScrapMuch?

And here is my take on it...

I know this page looks a bit bare without any journaling or even a title, but it's adjacent to a page with more pictures from this series, so it seemed redundant to add yet another title and more journaling. Trust me it makes sense when you're looking at both pages in the album! I suppose this is the problem I create when I scrapbook events all out of order lol. Anyhow these pictures are of two of my cousins (plus significant others) when we had a family reunion in St. Louis back in 2009 and went up in The Arch.

I thought the hot air balloon paper from the Echo Park Everyday Eclectic line was perfect for the photos. I couldn't resist fussy-cutting some clouds to use as embellishments either!

Thanks so much for looking!

Let's Get Sketchy

Happy Sunday everyone! As some of of you may have noticed, not only did I have a brief hiatus from scrapbooking during our moving process, but I also have not posted as a design team member of Let's Get Sketchy since July. I had the great pleasure of serving as both a design team member and also a sketch designer with Let's Get Sketchy since the time of its conception back in March 2012, but I felt that at this point in time I needed to step away from design team duties and responsibilities and to focus on just my scrapbooking. So now that I've gotten back into it at full force, it was super fun to get to play along with their newest sketch. And, oh, if you haven't visited the Let's Get Sketchy blog for a few months then you might be surprised to discover that for the first and fourth weeks of the month there is now a mood board along with the sketch. Double inspiration, friends!

And here's my take on the sketch and mood board...

When Santiago was a baby, he adored sitting on my lap and having me read books, but as he grew increasingly mobile his patience for book-reading diminished. He became the stereotypical boy-on-the go, only stopping when he was sleeping. I realized then that he was probably not going to be much of a book-reader once he learned to read, which was a bit disappointing to me as I could get lost in a good book all day long easily! Sure enough, getting him to do any of his language art homework has been a struggle since day one of Kinder. We have finally turned a bit of a corner when he discovered graphic novels as well as nonfiction books about subject matter he's interested in. So on rare occasions I'll find him curled up on the couch reading a Minecraft manual or Star Wars graphic novel, and of course I feel the need to document these monumental moments lol!

Thanks for looking!

ScrapMuch?

Happy Friday everyone! I'd like to kick off this weekend by sharing a page I created using a sketch from ScrapMuch? I seriously struggle getting my two-pagers done, and I don't know what I would do without Laura's (and PageMaps) awesome sketches!

For this layout I used photos of the kids releasing their balloons to Los Tres Reyes back in January of 2014, Until recently this was the only time we visited this particular park. But, ironically, when we moved into our new house this summer I realized that it is now almost within walking distance of us so now we go there often after school.

Thanks so much for looking and have a fabulous weekend!

ScrapMuch? Part 2

It's immensely frustrating to me that link-up tools won't allow you to link up more than one image from a single post. I guess I should try and keep up with my blogging more so I can spread out each layout to a single post, but life is usually getting in the way and I frequently find the need to lump together two or three pages in one post. Well, let's not waste any more time upon my soap box...here's another layout inspired by a November sketch over at ScrapMuch?

What I love about page designs like these is that I'm able to use up lots of smaller scraps. Yay for making another small dent in my stash, particularly the scrap stash.

Thanks for looking!

ScrapMuch? Part 1

Happy Black Friday! Did anyone go out and brave the sales today...or last night? I don't usually, but Michaels had an amazing sale on art canvases (70% off!!) and I've been itching to do a large piece of artwork for the dining room of our new house, so I went and got one. It was so enormous I couldn't get it into my car and I had to have my dad drive me back to the store in his minivan to pick it up lol. Now I just need to wait on some more sales to purchase large quantities of gesso and paint to get started on my project!

In the mean time I will continue to dig into my large stash of scrappy product and get those projects done! Like I did with the following page which was inspired by one of the November sketches at ScrapMuch?

All of the product on this page is so old...My Mind's Eye and KI Memories Halloween papers as well as some My Mind's Eye Meadowlark paper and diecuts. Even the photos are fairly old...Halloween 2012. Not only did ScrapMuch? inspire me to create this page, but the giant title was a prize that I received quite awhile back when I randomly won for playing along with their challenges.

When I "finished" this page I realized I didn't have adequate space for journaling so somehow or another I'm going to have to find a good place to put some hidden journaling. Maybe a pull-out tag behind the photos? What do you do when you don't leave yourself space in the design for journaling?

Thanks for looking!

Your Smile Says It All

Happy Wednesday! I know I said this yesterday, but it really, really feels good to be back to scrapbooking. I haven't been able to get much done since this past Friday because the kids are off school for all this week, but I figured I could take the opportunity to post some of the layouts I've done since blogging is much quicker than creating a layout.

I was inspired to create the below page by two different challenges. I used the sketch from the November challenge at Scrappy Friends and I then used the Challenge #32 at Scrap Our Stash which is to use items that begin with the first letters of ALBUMS. I used Arrow, Letters, Uniball Black Pen, My Mind's Eye Rubons, Staples)

I've been able to get a lot of fun photos of the kids driving the Gator. They've really enjoyed having it, and even though I never would have actually bought them one I'm glad we have it.

Thanks for looking!

I'm Back!

I cannot believe that it's been nearly FOUR months since my last post. I also can't believe how long I went without scrapbooking! I completed my last layout back in June and didn't get my supplies unpacked to start again until the last week of October. I was definitely suffering some serious withdrawals, which is probably why I have gotten so much scrapbooking done this last month. Unfortunately I haven't found as much time/opportunity to photograph and blog my layouts. There has been a lot of rain and wind in Dallas throughout November. And honestly, I'm still unpacking so I had to choose to spend my free moments creating or sharing what I created.  Fortunately it has been a great month for scrappy inspiration (which was perfect to get me back into the swing of things). The two following layouts were both created for the My Scraps and More Forum's Pinspirational Crop which ran from Nov. 6-15. Yes, yes I know...I'm just now posting them. Like I said....I had to choose between scrapbooking like crazy or scrapbooking a little & blogging. It was a no-brainer for me after such an extended hiatus. So without further ado...

I'm not sure how it is for you, but for me being creative is kind of like that old friend that you can go forever without talking to, but when you finally do talk to again you pick up right where you left off. It felt amazing to jump back into my scrapbooking after a forced break from it. I hope you've enjoyed what I've shared...there is much more to come!

Let's Get Sketchy July Week 4

Wow! Where on earth has July gone? It must have gotten lost somewhere amidst all the packing I've been doing. I had hoped to get in a bit of scrapbooking before I had to pack up all my supplies, but alas I was never able to. So it looks like this page for Let's Get Sketchy will be my last for a few months. I know it's not scrappy related, but perhaps I'll pop in with some "before" and "after" pics of the remodeling we're going to be doing on our new house. Otherwise I won't really have any blog post material until I'm unpacked and back in the saddle again.

And speaking of trying to stay on a scrapbooking topic, here is the final July sketch from Let's Get Sketchy...

And my take on it...

So it dawned on me about 6 months ago that I have not been keeping up with my kids birthday party photos. This year Santiago turned 7 and Paolina turned 5, yet I have never even finished scrapbooking the photos from their first birthday parties, let alone even gotten photos developed for all the proceeding birthdays. I think it's a similar case as with Christmas pics...I get overwhelmed by the sheer number of photos that I took, that I don't even know where to begin. Anyhow, right then and there I decided to bite the bullet and print out photos from Paolina's 2nd birthday party and make it a goal to have them scrapped by the end of 2015. I'm happy to say I'm half way through all of them...it's just too bad all this packing and moving is taking away from the time I had hoped to meet my goal.

Anyhow these photos were of some of the kids and the craft I had for them at the party...making their own crowns. All my product is super old, except for the watercolor-like chevron paper and the washi tape, which I picked up at Michaels last month when they were having one of their huge papercrafting sales (as if I need more scrappy supplies!)

Thanks for looking...hope you head over to Let's Get Sketchy to see what the rest of Team B has done!

Let's Get Sketchy July Week 2

Happy Monday everyone! So just when I thought our summer was slowing down a bit...swim lessons were finished, Paolina completed VBS and art camp, and all I have to do is run Santiago to his camp...we found out that the offer we made on a house was accepted. So now it's all about packing and making decisions about the renovations we'll be making in the new house before moving in. We've been spending a lot of time at Ikea and Home Depot lol. And I've already started packing nonessential items, which unfortunately includes scrapbooking supplies. Thank goodness I was actually ahead on my design team work, otherwise I would not have pages for July to share with you. Most likely I'm going to go on radio silence at the end of this month and you may not hear from me again until September or October. But enough about all that...you're here for a sketch! So here it is...Let's Get Sketchy's July Week 2 sketch:

I rotated it and came up with this...

I love my hairdresser! I always leave feeling gorgeous and can't resist getting a selfie every time. This was a new style this past February. I've been sporting sideswept bangs for years and thought it was time for a change.

If you haven't already, please head over to the Let's Get Sketchy blog to see what the rest of Team B did with my sketch. I'm sure you will find a ton of inspiration!

Product List:
Elle's Studio Saltwater patterned paper
Sassafras Lass patterned paper
Heidi Swapp Mixed Media glitter stickers
Recollections washi tape
The Crafters Workshop template
Heidi Swapp color shine
Loew-Cornell watercolor paint

ScrapMuch? Part 2

And here's the second installment of my pages using ScrapMuch? sketches. This one was inspired by the June 19th sketch at ScrapMuch?

And my take on it...

For this page I used one of Paolina's PreK Spring photos. I'm not a huge fan of overly-posed photos using props, but I love how sweet she looks in this picture!

Thanks for looking...have a great week!

ScrapMuch? Part 1

Happy Monday everyone! Today I want to share two pages I created using sketches from ScrapMuch? Since InLinkz won't allow me to link them both up from the same post, I'll be separating them. The below page was inspired by the June 5th sketch from ScrapMuch?

And my take on it...

This page has some photos of the party guests enjoying their cupcakes at Paolina's 2nd Birthday party.

Stay tuned for the second installment of ScrapMuch? inspired layouts...

Boys Rule

Happy Saturday! As usual our weekend is crazy busy so I'm just popping in real quick to share this page that was inspired by the June sketch challenge at Boys Rule

I used just one photo and came up with this...

This was a satisfying page to create. First of all, the photo is over 7 years old. I think the large red journaling card is around the same. Also, I've had that little red chipboard star and the semi-transparent epoxy stars sitting on my craft desk for over 6 months. I'm not sure why I've never put them away...I think I kept assuming that if I left them out I would use them on a page. I didn't realize it would take so long though! It felt good to get all of it scrapbooked!

Thanks for looking and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

6.26.2015

Scrap Our Stash

Happy Friday! Today I want to share a layout that was inspired by the June 1st challenge at Scrap Our Stash which is to create a layout and include items from your stash that spell the word BRADS.

Here's how I incorporated the challenge into my page...

B - Basic Grey (Fresh Cut) patterned paper
R - Rhinestones
A - Alphas
D - Dear Lizzy (Serendipity) patterned paper
S - Stitching

Thanks for looking and have a fabulous weekend!

Enjoy the Little Things

I don't know who coined the phrase "lazy days of summer" but clearly they didn't have to shuffle their kids to camps and swim lessons all day long. Of course part of our busyness is self-induced as we choose to spend a lot of our time going to our local library for their various summer programs. But if I had to decide between running around and keeping the kids busy, or sitting at home "relaxing" listening to the kids either complain of endless boredom or fight with each other, I guess I would prefer to be exhausted from running around all over town. I've been enjoying a couple hours of quiet each day this week with Paolina at VBS in the morning, so I've taken advantage and gotten some chores done and of course a bit of scrapbooking. But I keep forgetting to photograph my layouts during optimal times of the day. I only seem to think of it when the sun is going to cast the worst shadows on the page. Hey, at least it's not raining though, right? So without further ado here is a page I created using the June 1st  sketch from Stuck?! Sketches. I was also inspired by the June 15th challenge at Picture This! to use One Photo + Paint + Stencil.

I explain in the journaling that while Paolina and I were having yet another beauty makeover session she pulled out some beads, stuck them in her mouth and informed me she was going to "string" my eyebrows. Paolina usually goes withe me when I get my threading done, so I knew exactly what she meant and it gave me a great laugh. I didn't realize that she pays such close attention when we go, but apparently she does since she really had the technique down!

Sorry for all the shadows on this layout. Thanks for looking!

Let's Get Sketchy June Week 4

Happy Monday! How is everyone's summer so far? Ours is busy and really flying by. We've already been spending lots of time at the pool, library, and day camp. Which of course means I have had absolutely zero time to scrapbook. This week Paolina is going to vacation Bible school for a few hours each day, so I'm hoping to get some in! If you are able to get some scrappy time in then maybe you will want to play with this brand new sketch from Let's Get Sketchy!

And here's what I did with it...

I hope you take the time to head over to the Let's Get Sketchy blog for more inspiration from Team B's creations. And there is still time to join in the fun for all of this month's sketches.

Let's Get Sketchy June Week 2

Happy Monday! This is our family's first full official day of summer break. I can already see that the season is going to be jam-packed. I woke up before everyone to go to the gym, I got some housework done, and now we're off to the pool for Paolina's swim lessons. We plan to spend part of the day at the pool, and then the kids want to head to our local library for a free afternoon movie. And then this evening we're scheduled to look at a house with our real estate agent. Not only is this summer going to be filled with fun activities, but it looks like there will be little (if any) time to scrapbook. It's a good thing I worked a bit ahead with my design team work. Speaking of which, today is a new reveal over at Let's Get Sketchy. Here's this week's sketch...

I rotated it and came up with this...

I took these selfies after Santiago (age 4) and Paolina (age 2) put makeup on me.

Please head over to the Let's Get Sketchy blog to see what the rest of Team B did with this fun sketch!

Tickle Baby

One final post for today. This page was inspired by the Stuck?! Sketches May 15th sketch. I was also inspired by the May challenge at Scrap It Girl to use stitching.

I love these photos! From the very beginning Santiago loved having a baby sister. But it of course became more fun as she got older and more interactive. More than anything he loved making her laugh, and when he discovered that to get the best giggles was to "tickle baby" we would constantly find him almost tackling her to do so.

Most of the product is Kaisercraft's Chase Rainbows line, but I also used some scraps from Basic Grey's Junebug collection which coordinated perfectly.

Thank you so much for looking. Enjoy your weekend!

ScrapMuch? Part 2

And here's another layout using a ScrapMuch? sketch. I just love Laura's sketches!!

You would think that as far behind as I am with my scrapbooking I would concentrate on all my older photos, but I just can't help myself from scrapping recent ones as well. These are the flowers that Noé gave me for Valentine's Day this year.

Thanks for looking!

Scrap Much? Part 1

Oh my goodness! Where on earth has May gone? I have been so proud of myself for getting so much scrapbooking done this month, but unfortunately I have found it incredibly difficult to photograph any of my pages. We have had almost nonstop rain here in Texas for two months now. I'm trying to keep things in perspective...down in Houston there have been people who have lost their homes and even their lives to the flooding. Still, in my microcosm it's a ridiculous inconvenience for me to not be able to just go outside and take photos of my layouts. It hasn't rained (yet) today but it's very gloomy, so even though I was finally able to get my pages photographed, they're not very sharp. And now I'm trying to get all of them posted before the deadlines.

Anyhow...here's a page I did with the following ScrapMuch? sketch...

I flipped it and came up with this...

As many people are, I'm horribly behind on scrapping photos, but if that means I get to stare at these adorable baby photos of my little girl who's turning five next week, well then so be it! Sweet memories.

Stay tuned for another post using a ScrapMuch? sketch...

Let's Get Sketchy May Week 4

Happy Memorial Day to all my fellow Americans! Today is also my sweet husband's birthday...the big 4-0 this year. Will you be out and about celebrating today? Or do you have some scrappy time planned for the day? If so, Let's Get Sketchy has one final sketch for the month of May to spark your creativity.

And my take on it...

The background paper is from the Die Cuts With a View Mixed Media line and the rest of the papers are from the American Crafts new Amy Tangerine Stitched line. The reds, oranges and yellows from these two lines are perfect for these photos that I edited with Photo Editor Pro. Outdoors my phone takes amazing photos, but when there's crummy indoor lighting...well it takes crummy photos. So I cheat and use a photo editing app to add effects, which will usually mask the poor quality of the photo.

Thanks so much for looking. I hope you will find the time to check out what the rest of Team B did with this week's sketch.

Scrappy Friends

Happy Hump Day! Just wanted to share a page that actually I finished last week. We've had so much rain for the last couple of months that I find it very difficult to get my layouts photographed. The other day we had a rare day of sunshine so I took advantage and got pictures of about six layouts that over the last couple of weeks had been accumulating into a stack on my craft table. I've actually been doing a lot of scrapbooking lately but haven't posted any of it because of my lack of photos. So without further ado, a page inspired by the Scrappy Friends' challenges this month.

Here is Brenda's sketch...

And here's Rochelle's Tic Tac Toe challenge...

And here's what I was inspired to create...

I know I've said this before but I like to scrapbook memorabilia and cards, not just photos. This page has the Valentines my mom made for Noé and me back in 2007. This sketch was perfect for them! For the Tic Tac Toe challenge I used the right column: Arrow (down by the title), Anything Pink (self explanatory!) and Line Paper (the background paper).

Thanks for looking!

Let's Get Sketchy May Week 2

Happy Monday! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekends. I was thoroughly spoiled, which was completely unnecessary but of course amazing. I always tell Noé that all I want on Mother's Day is a break from cooking and dishes so I can feel free to spend time with everyone, but he went above and beyond by vacuuming the entire house and cleaning the bathrooms. Then he took the kids out of the house for about an hour-and-a-half, which allowed to some quiet time to scrapbook. All of this was more than gift enough, but then they came home and presented me with flowers, perfume and cards. Honestly, as ah-mazing as all of this was, my favorite part of the entire weekend was Saturday morning when the four of us had a simple, late breakfast at Einstein Bros Bagels and then came home and played card games. Like I say...just a break from cooking and dishes to simply hang out. It's all I need.

This weekend has provided me with lots of photos to get printed and scrapped. Do you have pictures you want to get onto pages? Well maybe this sketch from Let's Get Sketchy will help you out with that...

And this is how I used the sketch...

I apologize for quality of the photo. It's been non-stop rain here, which is not conducive for photographing my pages.

When I took this picture of Paolina trying on Noé's boots I immediately knew that when I scrapbooked it I wanted to title the page "These Boots Were Meant for Walking." I'm not particularly good with journaling or clever titles, so I was proud of myself for even thinking of it. Yet when time came to create the page, it just didn't work with the design. I'm sure the opportunity will arise again...

I encourage you to head over to the Let's Get Sketchy blog. Team B has some fantastic pages to share with you, and I'm sure you will find tons of inspiration.
