Sketch~N~Scrap

Happy Thursday! I just wanted to pop in and share a final page for April. There were so many great sketches and challenges out there this month,,,I wish I had had more time to have done more of them! For this layout I was inspired by Sketch #79 at Sketch~N~Scrap.

And this is what I did with it...

For  this page I used some super silly photos of Santiago and Paolina when they traded clothes. These are such innocent and humorous photos of Santiago showing off the fact that he had also traded underwear with his sister, but I felt that I needed to protect my kids from internet predators. so I blurred that portion out. On a bright note, I now have some excellent blackmail photos for when they get older!

Thanks for looking...enjoy your day!

Let's Get Sketchy April Week 4

Happy Monday! We had a busy but very fun weekend. Saturday afternoon was Santiago's 7th birthday party. We rented a pavilion at the kids' favorite park and then held our breath that this bipolar Texas weather would cooperate for an outdoor celebration. I was getting a bit anxious, as all last week it rained, and then God blessed us with a perfect day for the party. Saturday night we took the kids to Chuck E Cheese as a reward to Santiago for a school achievement that he had earned several weeks before, but this was the first time we had been able to honor it. Sunday afternoon we had lunch with friends from our church, and when we got home Santiago wanted to get all of his birthday presents out of their packaging and play with them. Now today is Santiago's actual birthday. His favorite place in the world to eat is Freebirds, so I'm picking up a burrito from there and taking it to him at school to eat for lunch. I'm looking forward to getting photos developed from the last three days and start scrapping them!

Speaking of scrapbooking...that's why I'm actually here huh? Today I have the final April sketch for Let's Get Sketchy.

And here's what I did with it....

Santiago's birthday wasn't the only celebration for our family this weekend...Saturday was also my dad's birthday. Santiago told me that we should invite Opa to all of his birthday parties so that Opa gets a party too. So in honor of my dad, here's a layout featuring him. Anyone who knows him knows that he's usually a pretty serious guy, so this photo that Santiago took of him making a silly face was definitely a scrap-worthy moment.

Thanks so much for looking, and I hope you have a chance to see what the rest of Let's Get Sketchy's Team B did with this week's sketch.

Big Kid Bed

Happy Monday! Today I decided that it was time for my stack of completed layouts to get put into their respective albums, and when I came across this page I realized I had never shared it!

This past summer we converted Paolina's toddler bed into its final stage as a full-sized bed. We had intended for it to be her bed, but her current bedroom in this house that we're renting will only accommodate a twin-sized bed, so for the time being Santiago is using it.

I decided to have fun with the background by creating my own faux ombre with strips of patterned paper, which imitates the design of his bedspread. When I created this page I was inspired my a March challenge at the My Scraps & More forum to use green as a dominant color in both the photo and layout, as well as using some green embellishments.

Thanks for looking and have a wonderful start to your week!

My Scraps & More April Sketchathon

Happy Sunday! I just wanted to share a few pages I've made for the My Scraps & More April Sketchathon. There's a new sketch every day this month, and some even have an added challenge as a twist.

This page was inspired by Sketch #4 by Wendi Robinson, with the added challenge of using a border punch. I used a photo of Santiago with his letter to Los Tres Reyes back in 2010.

Product List:
Theresa Collins patterned paper
My Mind's Eye patterned paper
Bazzill cardstock
Heidi Swapp Hello Today acetate stars
American Crafts Thickers
Prima alpha stickers
The Crafters Workshop template
Tattered Angels glimmer mist

This page was inspired by Sketch #3 by Missy Whidden, with the added challenge of using mist, paint, spray or ink. I used a photo of Santiago when he was almost 2 years old.

Product List:
Webster's Pages #happy patterned paper
Carta Bella Hello Again patterned paper
American Crafts Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm patterned paper
Bazzill cardstock

And this final page was inspired by Sketch #12 by Tina Gale, with the added challenge of stamping. I used photos of Santiago last summer when we started letting him take showers by himself. Of course, we still needed to peek in on him and make sure he was actually washing, and this is what I found one of those times.

Basic Grey Paper Cottage patterned paper
Colorbok patterned paper
My Mind;s Eye Now & Then patterned paper
Crate Paper Styleboard patterned paper
Liquitex gesso
Faber-Castell gelatos

Stuck?! Sketches

Happy Saturday! I don't know about you, but our weekends are almost always jam-packed with activity. So I'm just going to pop in super quick to share a page that I did using the April 1st sketch from Stuck?! Sketches.

And here's my take on it...

This is a photo that Santiago took of me last year. It seems like the only way I'm ever in photographs is if I take a selfie or if the kids are playing with my phone. If it's the latter, then it's rarely scrap-worthy, but I thought he did a pretty good job with this one.

Thanks for looking...have a great weekend

Carta Bella Hello Again patterned paper
Fancy Pants patterned paper

Fancy Nancy

Happy Friday! Today I want to share a page I created using Sketch #136 from Sketchabilities and Challenge #25 from Scrap Our Stash.

This past summer and fall, Paolina really got into giving me "makeovers". It seemed like almost everyday she was wanting to style my hair and put makeup on me. And when she discovered a series of books about a little girl named Nancy who loves everything super fancy, she then became obsessed with giving me over-the-top hairstyles and adorning my body with every piece of play jewelry in her stash. It's hard to tell from the photograph, but I have about twenty flowers and bows clipped in my hair.

It seemed appropriate to have a "fancy" mixed media layout to display my selfie. I used gesso, modeling paste, gelatos, mists, masks and lots of layers.

Challenge #25 at Scrap Our Stash was to include items from your stash using each letter in the word STAMP. I used...
S - Stencil
T - Tags
A - American Craft Thickers
M - Modeling Paste
P - Patterned Paper

Thanks for looking...oh and if you have a little girl and have never checked out the Fancy Nancy books by Jane O'Connor, I highly recommend that you do so!
