Let's Get Sketchy March Week 5

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine was filled with lots of birthday celebrating and was a ton of fun. But it was also a bit exhausting, so I'm glad to be back to a routine this morning. What's not usually part of the routine is a fifth Monday in the month. Oh but how fun it is. Let's Get Sketchy has a special sketch and mood board to inspire you!

This mood board is perfect for the fabulous spring weather that we're experiencing where I live. It also makes me think of Easter and Easter eggs, so I was inspired to create another page using Easter photos from last year...

I hope you will also find inspiration in this 5th Monday challenge and decide to play along!

Stuck?! Sketches

Happy Friday....and Happy Birthday to me! While I don't enjoy getting older I still love celebrating! And so far so good...my kids and husband sang Happy Birthday to me this morning and my daughter emptied the dishwasher & made all the beds. Yesterday I got a mani-pedi, and after I go to the gym this morning I'm getting my hair done, so I'm definitely feeling pampered. I've been looking forward to that for weeks! Now if I could just get some scrappy time in lol!

Speaking of scrappy time I just wanted to share one of my final pages for the month. This one was inspired by the March 1st sketch at Stuck?! Sketches.

I adapted the sketch for a single photo and came up with this...

With Easter just around the corner I was inspired to get an Easter page done, and this lovely Spring weather has had me inspired to use fresh, cheery colors. As I look at the photo of this page, I'm noticing that the "R" in my title is crooked. Does anyone else have a problem with the chipboard Thickers staying put? I guess I'll need to go back and glue that one down lol.

Well I'm off to finish pampering myself! Have a great Friday.

My Mind's Eye patterned paper & diecut

Scrap Much? Part 2

My next page was inspired by the below sketch...

I adapted the sketch for a single photo and came up with this...

This was a tricky photo to work with. I took it with my phone and the lighting in this room always makes everything have a strange yellow cast. If I play with it too much with photo-editing software it just makes everything look even more unnatural. But then I found this green paper from Glitz Design and decided to just embrace all the greens & yellows, even though they aren't my favorites. While this may not be a color palette I would normally work with I think it really suits the photo, and I'm pleased with the result.

Thanks so much for looking and have a great day!

Scrap Much? Part 1

Happy Thursday! I hope everyone is doing well. Today I wanted to share not just one, but TWO pages I did using sketches from Scrap Much?

I love that once a month they reveal a double-page sketch. It's hard to find those since single-page layouts are "the thing" these days. While I do tend to scrap single pages, I still have so many layouts that just need to be doubles because of the number and/or size of photos. Scrapping lots of tiny photos might be artistic & trendy, but not always practical if you can't see what's going on in the photos. Here's the sketch...

And my take on it...

I probably could have fit all of these photos onto one page, but it would have been crowded. Plus I love that I was able to use an over-sized font for the title, which I wouldn't have been able to do on a single page featuring four photos. I'm pleased to have really dug into my older stash for this one too. The paper is Basic Grey Romani and SEI Jocelyn. I also used glitter chipboard alphas from the My Mind's Eye Laundry Line and some K & Company puffy flower stickers. I'm pretty sure all of that product was released before Paolina was even born lol.

And since Mr. Linky isn't going to allow me to link up two layouts from the same post this will be continued...

Let's Get Sketchy March Week 3

Happy Spring!! I am so so happy that with the official spring season, there is also finally some sunshine and warm temperatures. I have been literally moping about for the last 6 weeks with all the cold, gray, gloomy, snowy, icy weather. I feel like the sunshine is pouring out of me!

If the weather isn't beautiful where you are, how about finding some "sunshine" with a fun new sketch from Let's Get Sketchy!

And my take on it...

Last January a friend gifted our kids a Gator after her son received a three-wheeler for Christmas. Not only have they spent hours driving it around our backyard, but it is also a big hit with their neighbor friend.

I hope you get the chance to head over to the Let's Get Sketchy blog and see what the rest of Team B did with this fun sketch. And I hope you have the time to play along as well!

Red Carpet Studio

Spring Break is wrapping up, and while I didn't find the time to scrapbook, I did have lots of fun with the kids. It even warmed up enough that we've had some park time! And I was also able to photograph some pages that I did last week.

The following layout was inspired by Red Carpet Studio's Challenge #92: The Academy Awards, which was to use circles, gold and either a bow tie or bling (or both).

I used photos of Paolina with her balloons to Los Tres Reyes in 2014. There are circles on the background paper, gold in her balloons & the jewel swirl, and I used both bling & a bow tie in the embellishment cluster.

Product List:
Me and My Big Ideas Mixed Media patterned paper
The Paper Studio patterned paper
Crate Paper Styleboard patterned paper
Crate Paper Flea Market bow embellishments

Birthday Lunch

So we're half way through Spring Break. And it's definitely been better than a lot of school breaks of the past. I guess that's part of the kids getting older. Of course I have made sure that we have at least one fun outing each day. Our local library has helped out with that goal, as they have been offering fun activities throughout the week. In fact I just got home from taking Santiago to a petting zoo that was set up behind the library. It's so obvious that he's a city kid with no pets...he just doesn't know what to do with the animals lol...but he loved it just the same. I couldn't get him to leave!

Anyhow, the weather is finally showing some hints of spring (ie, no snow, rain or ridiculous wind) so I was able to get outside and photograph some layouts. This one was inspired by two challenges:

Red Carpet Studio #91 My Fair Lady - Create a "girly" project with lots of layers
Picture This! March 1st Challenge - 1 Photo + Circles + Tilt

I used a PageMaps sketch and came up with this...

I really admire the shabby chic style of scrapbooking...all those layers of floral papers and romantic flowers. I tried for several years to adopt that style, but I've come to find that as much as I love oohing and ahhing over other people's shabby chic creations it just doesn't suit my personality. But as all of you fellow hoarders will appreciate, I still have tons of paper from that stage of my scrapbooking in my stash . So I'm trying to find ways to use it. I loved this photo of my parents with this paper, so I kept it simple & modern with the filmstrip border in the background and the chalkboard title. And while I did use a doily, there is not a single dimensional flower on here. There's even a bit of "white space" above the photo. I feel like even though I used a background paper that doesn't really suit my current style, I was able to keep pretty true to myself with the page.

Product List:
My Mind's Eye Find Your Wings and Fly patterned paper
SEI Jocelyn patterned paper
Bo Bunny Mamarazzi 2 patterned paper
Crate Paper Styleboard patterned paper
Fancy Pants Roadshow sticker border
Bo Bunny doily

Let's Get Sketchy March Week 2

So this week Santiago is on Spring Break from school. I have a few thoughts on this. First of all...spring break already?? We just had snow and ice five days ago, today is only in the low 50s, and last time I checked I'm pretty sure it's still officially winter. And another thought...spring break already?? Didn't they just go back to school from winter break? I swear I will never get to the gym on a regular schedule or have a clean house at this rate. And more importantly...when am I ever going to get consistent scrappy time before it's  *GASP* summer break? Well, as they say "C'est la vie."

But the good news is that it's time for another new sketch from Let's Get Sketchy.

I substituted duplicate photo booth strips for the three square photos and came up with this...

It seems like I hardly have any photos of just Noé and me. We're always taking pictures of the kids, but the kids aren't exactly taking a lot of pictures of us! So not only was it fun to go with Noé to an adult-only event at his office last summer, it was a pleasant surprise that his company had rented out a photo booth.

Hope you have the time to check out what the rest of Team B did with my sketch, as well as play along with it yourself!
